Family Martial Arts: Checking In

Monday afternoon plays host to one of the most popular projects at the community centre: Family Martial Arts! These double stacked hour long classes are a wonderful opportunity for children and parents to work out together in the hall, or outdoors in the warm weather, under the expert guidance of Ebou N’Jie from Physical Excellence, who’s been running the classes here for years. We don’t have favourites, but if we did, this fabulous family sweatfest would be one of them! Coach Ebou, the man with the pads, sent us this summary of FMA over the last three months:

‘Our family martial arts sessions have been a tremendous success this term, providing a unique opportunity for families to engage in physical activity, learn new skills, and strengthen bonds. From September 9th to December 16th, 2024, we held weekly sessions every Monday, each running for a total of 2 hours. These sessions consistently attracted between 30 and 35 participants, highlighting the strong community interest in family-oriented martial arts. This turnout demonstrates the ongoing demand and value of these family-friendly martial arts activities.’

Funded by Lambeth Council, the classes run from 4-5 and 5-6pm on Mondays during term time. It’s free to attend and there is capacity for people to join, so do pop down, introduce yourself to the coaches and be prepared to sweat!
