Flytipping: We’re Taking Names
Again! It’s not going anywhere and neither are our efforts to combat this disgraceful behaviour.
Our ‘excellent, amazing, very professional and extremely hard working’ cleaners (see above) are literally taking names from parcels and the culprits are receiving letters from the housing team, who will escalate to enforcement with repeat offenders. We’re also in contact with the Lambeth CCTV team to identify culprits and issue fines.
In addition, we’re setting up a Flytipping Focus Group to explore the issue and discuss solutions. Timings are TBC, based on the availability of interested residents, but if you’d like to be involved, please contact sam.mason@pinnaclegroup.co.uk or call the main switchboard.
During a recent blitz on flytipping in Brixton, Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, Lambeth Council deputy leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Lambeth and Clean Air, said: “We know the majority of our residents and businesses act responsibly and dispose of their waste the right way. But those that either can’t be bothered or are looking for shortcuts will be held to account for their anti-social behaviour.
“Residents often highlight fly-tipped waste to us and we have a responsive service that clears our streets. But this costs public money, money that would be much better spent on services to support our residents, especially at a time when local government is under incredible strain.”
Ignorance is famously no defence, but there are a number of processes involved in disposing of waste on this estate. Here’s a quick recap:
Household rubbish goes in the general waste pods, recycling in the recycling pods. These pods are then emptied by the council, here’s a list of items you can recycle:
newspapers and magazines
card and cardboard
toilet and kitchen roll tubes
egg boxes
junk mail
catalogues
plastic bottles - leave the lids on
plastic packaging - such as tubs and food trays (but not plastic film)
glass jars and bottles - put metal lids in separately
cans and tins
liquid food and drink cartons
Bulky Waste collections are included in residents service charges. For those residents who pay a service charge, the bulk waste collection is offered at no additional cost and is collected by Pinnacle. Bulky waste is defined as household items of furniture no larger than a double bed or wardrobe and doesn’t mean building waste, car engines or tyres, or interestingly, Agas. To book a collection, please contact reception via the switchboard or email MFNCustomerService@pinnaclegroup. co.uk. If you leave bulky waste outside without registering it with us, it’s flytipping and could land you a £50,000 fine.
